Gerhard M. Schertzer has generated over a three decades-long wealth of experience to draw upon in his resolution of legal issues within his fields of practice. With an international outlook, he has handled many niche cross- border cases.
Mr. Schertzer’s primary focus has been in the areas of estate litigation and administration, commercial litigation (business and contractual disputes), administrative law (professional discipline and university academic and disciplinary appeals), cross-border legal services, and German-English legal translation and notarization.
Mr. Schertzer’s regular contributions to Canadian nationally-based legal publications for more than a decade confirm his exceptional capabilities in constructing and communicating clear, effective, and persuasive legal arguments. He has worked on cases and appeared as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal.
Mr. Schertzer’s cross-border experience, primarily between Ontario and Germany, has included matters pertaining to foreign heirs to an Ontario estate, as well as to any resulting litigation. He has handled cases pertaining to litigious matters on behalf of German banks and other creditors to Ontario residents, as well as to a broad array of other commercial and non-commercial litigation contexts, together with the related private international law issues thereby arising. His proficiency in the German language and a keen interest in matters connected to Germany, where he is also a citizen, provide an added advantage to the German-speaking community in Canada, as well as clients in Germany who require an experienced German-speaking lawyer in Toronto.
Called to the Ontario Bar in 1990, Mr. Schertzer is a Notary Public for the Province of Ontario and a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. His Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees were earned at the University of Windsor.
